The wood products industry generates a vast amount of data every month. Prices, trade flows, production figures and inventory statistics help explain what has happened in the market. What they often fail to show is how market participants themselves view current conditions.
To provide that perspective, Global Wood Markets Info (GWMI) has launched the GWMI Monthly Market Pulse, a survey designed to capture real-time sentiment across the international wood products industry.
The first edition attracted approximately 120 participants from across the global forest products value chain. Respondents include sawmill owners and managers, lumber traders, timber buyers, purchasing managers, importers, exporters, distributors, consultants, market analysts and representatives of industry associations. Together, they offer a broad view of market conditions across major wood products markets.
The inaugural survey offers a unique snapshot of industry sentiment from 120 professionals active across the international forest products value chain. The full results are available exclusively to GWMI subscribers and can be downloaded below.
The survey focuses on the issues that industry participants deal with every day. Respondents are asked to assess current market conditions, demand levels, business activity, inventory situations and price developments. They are also invited to provide written market observations, allowing them to highlight developments that may not yet be visible in official statistics.
In addition, participants identify the factors currently placing the greatest pressure on their businesses, including weak demand, oversupply, high raw material costs, logistics challenges, financing costs and broader economic uncertainty.
