This week the US Department of Commerce announced its preliminary conclusions on Canadian softwood lumber anti dumping duties. These duties will rise from 7,66% to 20,07% on top of which countervailing duties of 6,74% will be applied bringing the total amount of duties close to 30%. Unlike the 25% blanket tariffs on Canadian imports to the US, now delayed, which appear to be a negotiating tool the anti dumping duties and countervailing duties are there to stay.
