Unrealistic to expect US self-sufficiency in sawn timber, says Swedish market analyst
On February 11, 2025, the United States paused its plans to impose higher tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada for 30 days, while new tariffs on Chinese goods were enacted. For the Swedish forest industry, however, the US market accounts for only about 5-10% of exports, depending on the segment, so the direct impact of these tariff changes is expected to be limited.
