Recent trends in the US lumber and housing market
The US housing market saw a notable slowdown in May 2024, with revised housing starts falling to 1.314 million units (SAAR), marking a 2.8% decrease from April’s 1.352 million units. Single-family starts dropped by 3.3% to 1.002 million units, accounting for 76% of total starts, up from 64% a year earlier. Multi-family starts decreased by 1.3% to 312,000 units.
